The Mont-Saint-Michel is one of Europe’s most unforgettable sights. Set in the mesmerizing bay where Normandy and Brittany merge, the island draws the eye from great distances.
Surrounded by the sea with one of the highest tidal ranges in the world the Mont St. Michel is simply unique.
History of Pilgrimage Place
The story of how the mount turned into a great place of Christian pilgrimage is colorful. Aubert, bishop of the nearby hilltop town of Avranches early in the 8th century, claimed that the Archangel Michael himself pressured him into having a church built atop the island just out to sea.
From 966 onwards, the dukes of Normandy, followed by French kings, supported the development of a major Benedictine abbey on the Mont-Saint-Michel.
Your guide-driver will explain all about the unique geology that formed the base of the village as well as the unique wetlands that surround it.
When you arrive at the coast, hop aboard a shuttle for transport to the Mont, built atop a lone granite rock in the middle of a vast tidal range.
You will start a guided tour of the abbey, masterpiece of medieval architecture, that sits perched on the highest point of the island and dates back to the early eighth century.
Learn about the fascinating history of this sacred monastery, dedicated to the Archangel Saint Michel, learn about a religious history dating back over 1 000 years.
You will admire the Romanesque Church, the Gothic “Marvel” with the monk’s Cloisters and Refectory, the Knights Room, the Guest Room, the Refectory, the Undercroft, as well as various chapels.

A lunch break, which is not included in the price, but your guide will give you plenty of restaurant recommendations – don’t miss the famously fluffy omelets, they are a local specialty.
After lunch, free time to explore the rock island of Mont Saint Michel at your own pace and take in the extraordinary 360° views of the surrounding bay.

Private mount st michael trip
The best way to visit is with a private tour/guide. Very well cared for and we did it on our own relaxed time.
I had a wonderful time!
Le Mont Saint Michel
We’ve been wanting to go visit this famous Unesco site in our previous trips but never found the chance. This time, the schedule just worked out perfectly fine. It was a very interesting and, at the same time, informative day with our guide, Fred. He was very knowledgeable with the history of France that he started briefing us as soon as we got in the car with a background of his country. This is to completely understand the importance of this island, Mont Saint Michel and how it came about. He was fluent in English. Fred made sure we are comfortable throughout the tour. We would definitely avail of his services again for future tours in France.
Day trip to Mont-Saibt-Michel
Fred, our guide and driver was punctual, courteous and very informative from the very start of our journey. it took little less than four hours to get to the penisula, and the van we rode going there was super comfortable with all the ammenities like wifi etc. Fred was even very acommodating regarding rest stops at your request or if you would like to make stops for pictures. Upon arriving at Mont Saint Michel, Fred gave is a detailed history of the place, you will simply be amazed of how it came to be.
A mustry also is their traditional omelette, Fred can personally recommend to you a restaurany of your liking depending on your budget.
I personally would recommend this tour. You are in good hands with Fred. Two thumbs up and one off our bucket lists.
