What to Expect on this Mont St Michel Tour
The story of how the mount turned into a great place of Christian pilgrimage is a colorful one. Aubert, bishop of the nearby hilltop town of Avranches in the early 8th century, claimed that the Archangel Michael himself pressured him into having a church built atop the island just out to sea. From 966 onwards, the dukes of Normandy, followed by French kings, supported the development of a major Benedictine abbey on the Mont-Saint-Michel.
Your guide-driver will explain the unique geology that formed the base of the village, as well as the unique wetlands that surround it, on your way to Lower Normandy.
Start the day at the Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey
When you arrive at the coast, your guide will assist you in boarding a shuttle for transportation to the Mont, built atop a lone granite rock in the middle of a vast tidal range. You will start a guided tour of the 8th-century abbey, a masterpiece of medieval architecture, that sits perched on the highest point of the island.
Learn about the fascinating history of this sacred monastery, dedicated to the Archangel Saint Michel, and some 1,000 years of religious history at this UNESCO world heritage site. Highlights of the visit include: the Romanesque church, the Gothic “Merveille” (marvel) building with the monk’s cloisters and refectory, the Knights’ Room, the Guest Room, and the Undercroft, as well as various chapels.
Lunch and free time in Mont-Saint-Michel
After a morning exploring the mont’s history, enjoy a lunch break (at your own expense). Your guide will give you plenty of restaurant recommendations – and don’t miss the famously fluffy omelets, they are a local specialty!
After lunch, take your time explore the rock island of Mont Saint Michel at your own pace and take in the extraordinary 360-degree views of the surrounding bay.
Stroll through the steep-sided narrow streets of the town and its defensive ramparts, where you’ll find gift shops and small businesses.
Your guide- driver at your disposal all day and after this unforgettable experience he will drive you back to Paris through the Normandy countryside and coast.

Private mount st michael trip
The best way to visit is with a private tour/guide. Very well cared for and we did it on our own relaxed time.
I had a wonderful time!
Le Mont Saint Michel
We’ve been wanting to go visit this famous Unesco site in our previous trips but never found the chance. This time, the schedule just worked out perfectly fine. It was a very interesting and, at the same time, informative day with our guide, Fred. He was very knowledgeable with the history of France that he started briefing us as soon as we got in the car with a background of his country. This is to completely understand the importance of this island, Mont Saint Michel and how it came about. He was fluent in English. Fred made sure we are comfortable throughout the tour. We would definitely avail of his services again for future tours in France.
Day trip to Mont-Saibt-Michel
Fred, our guide and driver was punctual, courteous and very informative from the very start of our journey. it took little less than four hours to get to the penisula, and the van we rode going there was super comfortable with all the ammenities like wifi etc. Fred was even very acommodating regarding rest stops at your request or if you would like to make stops for pictures. Upon arriving at Mont Saint Michel, Fred gave is a detailed history of the place, you will simply be amazed of how it came to be.
A mustry also is their traditional omelette, Fred can personally recommend to you a restaurany of your liking depending on your budget.
I personally would recommend this tour. You are in good hands with Fred. Two thumbs up and one off our bucket lists.
